Buy a dated Studio Pass first. It is the park-entry ticket. Add a Universal Express Pass only when its exact attractions, area-entry benefit and printed times solve a real problem for your one park day.
The short answer: most first-time visitors need a Studio Pass for their visit date. An advance ticket can be used for direct park entry without exchanging it at a ticket booth. A standalone Express Pass does not replace admission.

This order keeps the decision simple: secure valid park entry, decide whether queue time needs extra protection, then save the final ticket correctly. It prevents an expensive Express Pass from becoming a ticket you cannot use because admission, date or timing was misunderstood.
What a Studio Pass includes
Universal Studios Japan describes the Studio Pass as the park-entry ticket. It includes entrance and use of attractions, subject to each attraction’s operating status and guest requirements. You must select a visit date when buying a standard admission ticket.
- Date: buy for the day you will actually visit; prices and available ticket types can vary by date.
- Age: use the age category that applies on the visit date and read any school-year rule shown by the seller.
- Direct entry: USJ states that an advance Studio Pass does not need to be exchanged before entering.
- Re-entry: standard admission tickets generally do not allow re-entry after you leave the park.
- Attractions: entry does not override ride height, health, closure or capacity restrictions.

How QR entry works
- Confirm that the voucher is the final admission ticket for the correct date and guest.
- Download it before leaving reliable internet access and keep your phone charged.
- Open the complete ticket screen when approaching the gate; do not rely on a cropped QR image.
- Keep every guest’s ticket easy to identify, especially when one phone stores a group’s vouchers.
- If you also bought an Express Pass, keep that separate ticket and every printed attraction time available inside the park.
USJ warns that ticket resale is prohibited and that QR codes bought through unauthorized resale channels can be invalidated. Use the official web ticket store or a current authorized travel-agency route, not an auction, marketplace listing or private transfer.
Super Nintendo World entry is a separate check
A Studio Pass gets you into the park, but it does not by itself promise entry to Super Nintendo World at any time you choose. Depending on crowd conditions, you may need a guaranteed area-entry product or a same-day timed-entry or lottery ticket through the official process. Some Express Passes include guaranteed area entry, but only when the exact package says so.
Make this check before payment if Super Nintendo World is non-negotiable. “USJ admission included” and “Super Nintendo World entry guaranteed” are different claims.
